Industrial Visit to SRM University Labs

On 30 August 2024, students from Don Bosco Polytechnic College visited SRM University’s advanced labs for an educational tour that provided hands-on exposure to cutting-edge technologies.

During the visit to the Mitsubishi Electric Industrial Robot Lab, students had the opportunity to interact with the 6-axis Mitsubishi industrial robot, gaining insights into industrial automation. The robot’s programming was demonstrated using Raput language, offering a practical understanding of precision in modern manufacturing.

In the ABB IRB Flex Picker section, students observed a parallel manipulator robot that is widely used in assembly lines for material handling tasks such as picking and placing. This demonstrated the speed, accuracy, and efficiency needed for industrial automation systems.

The Bernoulli’s Theorem and Orifice Meter Test Rig Lab presented a hands-on application of fluid dynamics principles. Students explored how pressure and velocity changes in fluid flow, particularly through the orifice meter, connected theoretical concepts with real-world applications in fluid mechanics.

The aerospace section was particularly captivating, with exhibits on advanced defense systems such as Akash, Astra, and GSLV Mk-II. The visit to the subsonic wind tunnel offered in-depth knowledge of aerodynamics and missile technology.

Overall, this industrial visit to SRM University’s labs provided valuable practical insights into robotics, fluid mechanics, and aerospace engineering. It helped students connect theoretical learning with real-world industry applications, contributing to the development of skills crucial for their future careers in engineering.
